Press Release: FAA Seeks $12 million Civil Penalty Against Southwest Airlines
07/28/14 - AMFA
July 28, 2014 -- Today, the FAA has announced a proposed fine to Southwest Airlines (SWA) regarding maintenance done at outside vendors. AMFA is a staunch supporter of safety, and as is a steady theme in our current contract negotiations with SWA, we believe that our members provide the best maintenance available and should always be the providers of choice. AMFA’s membership is comprised of highly skilled, trained, and professional aircraft maintenance technicians who take their mantra, “Safety in the air begins with quality maintenance on the ground,” seriously. We look forward to working with Southwest Airlines now and in the future, and support any attempt to have more work done in-house and by our members.

Chief Steward, Mike Bandy reported that he “…went from high school to the U.S. Navy, and then to a place with no union. You could come to work one day and the employer could say, 'you are no longer needed' and that would be it for you. No more job. There was no job protection and it was scary. I retired from the Navy after 20 years.

July 25, 2014 | ECONOMY | The federal minimum wage was last increased on July 24, 2009, and since then, a lot has changed (don't forget tipped workers haven't seen a raise since 1991). There have been so many attacks on working families since that time that it would be difficult to catalog them all.
